of the best are located near the Full Moon Inn.
Although California receives the most recognition for wine production in the United
States, Spanish missionaries began producing wine in
Texas around the 1700s -- almost a century before California
vineyards were established.
In fact, over half on the species of grape worldwide are grown in
Texas. German and Italian immigrants are credited with starting Texas winemaking. When a blight struck over six million acres of European
vineyards rootstock resistant to the disease was sent from Texas and grafted to the
European varieties.
Wineries in Texas suffered their own setback as a result of the Prohibition
passed by the 18th Amendment in 1919. The wine drought lasted until 1935 with repeal of
the Prohibition.
With approximately 40 wineries in Texas the state ranks fifth in wine
production -- the top wine states are California, New York, Washington and Oregon
respectively. That's not to say they produce the best wine. More than a few
Texas wineries lay claim to that privilege.
Becker Vineyards
 There are 36 acres of
French vinifera grapes planted in the vineyard with Bordeaux and Rhone varieties such as
viognier, syrah, grenache, cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon and more to make
Bordeaux-style wines with. Each vintage is aged in both new French and American oak
barrels in the largest underground wine cellar in Texas at Becker Vineyards.

Rancho Ponte Vineyard
Rancho Ponte, a family-owned winery established in
2009, is the newest winery in the Texas Hill Country. Our beautiful winery and tasting
room are nestled on 20 acres, surrounded by cattle and horse ranches. We are open seven
days a week from 11am until 5pm, except on saturday when we are open until 6pm. Wine

Flat Creek Estate

Nestled in the hills just fifty miles west
of Austin, Texas, is the picturesque Hill Country Estate on Flat Creek created and
developed by Rick and Madelyn Naber. Similarities in architectural style and
agricultural setting to the Tuscany area of Italy are noted by many a visitor. Flat
Creek Estate currently has 12 acres of Italian varietal grapes under cultivation and a
4000-case winery completed just in time for Vintage 2002
Our vineyard and
winery location is off RM 1431, 6 miles west of Lago Vista. Turn south on Singleton
Bend Road and go 2.5 miles to Singleton Bend East. Turn left and go 3/4 of a mile to
the bottom of the hill. The vineyard will be on your left. Turn up the gravel
road 1/8 mile to the gated entrance of Flat Creek Estate.
